QUOTE(sexton @ Jan 28 2009, 10:45 PM) - Interestingly enough this has been the first yr. in wch. many shops in C'TOWN. selling gold were CLOSED over the period; reportedly prices were changing several times per diem PLUS the large numbers of people were making life difficult for the dealers; so the easiest sol'n. was to CLOSE shop for the dur'n..
Thanks for the info. It was indeed strange that almost all goldsmith shops were closed on those 2 days. in fact, insofar i've only seen 1 that remains open on the 2nd day of CNY. the makeshift night bazaar was so lively and interesting. i can't stop snacking fm stall to stall. will put up a few pics when i'm back.

Yaowarat for vehicular tfc. for ChNY. so as to allow for foot-tfc. and for the setting-out of tables etc. etc.. - However, Tnn. Only one thing though... Over the Chinese New Year, the Yaowarat main road was blocked. But this was to allow the place to be full of people. The festivities were bustling and a lot of street vendors were selling the food. Most crowded was during 5-6PM and it was fun. The only problem was that you need to take a taxi till the road closure area and take a long walk in. During the late evening, this was more manageable. I think the road closure is stopped today and one can go back to the usual supper places easily.

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/local/1047...-bought-a-stake[/url] Well it just confirm the proliferation of power and corruption in Thailand .. I am sure many entertainment venues are operating illegally and the bottomline is ... who is in charge? or who dare to probe into the legal matters..... I am more concern of the safety of the infrastructure... I become very paranoid of Bangkok's many narrow soi(s)... have you noticed those over-hanging electrical cables.... everywhere is a fire hazard to me... And worst, if you enter Soi Twilight, most establishment has only one entrance/exit... not to mention those bars on the upper floors... scary!
