At the Global LGBT Workplace Summit, Google announced the launch of the ‘Legalise Love’ campaign.
At first glance, one would think that this initiative by Google is about marriage equality but it really is not. Spokesperson for the campaign said that the campaign aims to “promote safer conditions for gay and lesbian people inside and outside the office in countries with anti-gay laws on the books”. Beginning in Singapore and Poland, he added that, “Singapore wants to be a global financial centre and world leader and we can push them on the fact that being a global centre and a world leaders means you have to treat all people the same, irrespective of their sexual orientation.”
Google has always been a strong supporter of LGBT rights and it offers full employee benefits to gay staff and has spoken out against “Proposition 8” in California. The company is also a sponsor of Pink Dot 2012 which took place in Singapore 30th June this year.
