Trevvy speaks to Johnny Vicious, #1 Billboard Producer and Madonna’s Official DJ/Remixer who will front the ‘Big Bang’ party at Zirca on 1 Jan 2010.
Trevvy: Hi Johnny, you’re a highly sought after DJ and have played in some of the most famous clubs around the world. How did your career begin?
Johnny: I began my career as a DJ in New Jersey. From it, I wanted bigger and better things so I moved to New York City and started working for ‘Salsoul Music’. From there, I had access of the entire Salsoul catalog, and I also bought an Ensonique EPS. I then started to sample as much as I could and began remixing tracks from then on.
Trevvy: When did you first begin working on Madonna’s tunes, and how did that opportunity come about?
Johnny: I was first called to work on Madonna’s songs from the Promotional Dance Director of Warner Records Orlando Puerta. He first asked me to remix “Miles Away”, and following the hit success of that song he asked me to remix Madonna’s latest hit single, “Celebration” which I am sure all you boys are familiar with.
Trevvy: How has dance music changed since you started DJ-ing?
Johnny: WOW!! It has certainly changed dramatically with the development of CDs and computers - I wish it didn’t though and we were all using vinyl still, or at at least just CDs.
Trevvy: What are your thoughts on the current gay dance party scene in Asia and elsewhere in the world?
Johnny: I am not sure about Asia, but I bet the scene here has a great vibe! For the rest of the world, everyone’s looking for a theme night, and in Europe it’s total dance. In the U.S. however, the gay scene continues to support house music 100%.
Trevvy: What are your upcoming projects - CDs and remixes?
Johnny: My recent remixes are Madonna’s “Celebration”, Whitney Houston’s “I Look To You", “Whattcha Say” by Jason Derulo, and American Idol finalist Adam Lambert’s latest hit, “For Your Entertainment”.
Trevvy: What can our boys in Singapore expect from you at your gig at Zirca on 1 Jan 2010, Fri?
Johnny: Loads! You boys in Singapore are in for a treat! Expect big vocal tracks, tribal electro vibes, tonnes of great fun, serious hardcore dancing, and some of my great remixes of course!
Johnny Vicious will perform on 01/01/2009, Friday (New Year's Day) at Zirca.
Specials for the night include: A special Big Bang surprise performance, together with a sure win lucky dip which includes great prizes from Kiehl’s, Newurbanmale.com, and Fabulous Tan!
