BY Team Trevvy
Superstar DJ Joe Bermudez (USA) makes his debut at ‘Superstar Blast Off’, headlining the Countdown Party (31 Dec 2009) at Red Dot Design Museum’s Indoor Main Exhibition Hall.
18/12/2009

Trevvy speaks to Joe Bermudez, Top 20 DJ in America as voted in DJ Times and International DJ/Producer/Remixer for Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson & many other Platinum Selling Artistes who will spin in Singapore for the first time at Singapore’s biggest multi-day dance music festival to welcome 2010. An International brand name, Joe Bermudez has amassed a worldwide following for his seamless sets, pitch perfect productions, and willingness to play to the crowd: not his ego.

Trevvy:
Hi Joe, you’ve had an illustrious music career to date – You’ve your own radio show, and you’re a famous club DJ. We know that you've remixed loads of hits for some of the biggest names in the music business, Platinum-selling artistes like Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera, just to name a few. What are some of your proudest achievements?

Joe: You actually just mentioned a bunch of them. It's really cool to be associated with such musical heavyweights, but I guess the thing I am most proud of right now is the new radio show I've been doing.  I absolutely love it!  We've already featured some really cool interviews with celebrities like Drew Barrymore and Miley Cyrus as well as upfront guest mixes from DJ’s like Kaskade and Sander van Doorn.  You can hear some of the archived shows at www.MassMovementRadio.com.  I’d love to know what Singapore thinks of it!

Trevvy: How did you come to get the opportunity to work on remixes for such big names?

Joe: Starting in radio certainly helped.  By the time I was ready to try remixing, I already had good relationships with many record label executives and artists from working on different shows throughout the years.  I still had to crawl through the trenches and pay my dues, but at least I had some insight into how things worked.

Trevvy: Do you feel that the gay community generally have different tastes in music, as compared to the straight community?

Joe: I think a good song is a good song and people will like it no matter who they are sleeping with.  I do think the media portrays both communities as liking only certain things, but I see many gay people at straight events and vice versa so obviously both sides are just looking for great music.

Trevvy: How and when did your first gig come about?

Joe: My first professional club gig was at a tiny spot in Portland, Maine nearly a decade ago.  It was actually my first time ever inside a nightclub too.  I had always wanted to go out, but didn't know how to dance so I had stayed away from them.  The venue owners heard me on the radio and thought they would take a chance on me.  I'm glad they had faith in me because it added an entire new chapter to my life.

Trevvy: Tell us about some of your most memorable nights you’ve played.

Joe:
There have been lots of good ones.  Just 12 months ago, I counted down the new year with Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz as I DJ’d the roof top of Pure Nightclub over looking the Las Vegas strip with a huge fireworks display going off above us.  I'm hoping Singapore can top that this year!

Trevvy: How would you describe a “classic Joe Bermudez set”?

Joe: I like a lot of different styles of music so the perfect night for me is when the crowd is up for anything. Then I can play some progressive, some electro, some vocals, etc.  I like there to be a good energy in the room so be prepared to dance.  I am constantly hunting for and making new music to ensure that everyone has a good time.

Trevvy: How do you feel about coming to Singapore to spin for Superstar Blast Off? What can our partygoers expect from you?

Joe: I'm very excited to be playing Singapore for the first time. I’ve got a lot of secret weapons in store that you won’t be able to hear anywhere else.  A lot of big name DJs that I talk to rave about the scene there so I can’t wait. I am looking forward to having my own personal story of how great the parties are to tell my all friends back home!

Joe Bermudez will perform on 31/12/2009, Thursday (New Year's Eve) at the Red Dot Design Museum (Main Exhibition Hall).
