In reality, if someone told me the 2 versions like in the novel/movie...I'll know the latter is the true, more real one...but maybe the 1st story is what i would prefer to happen...less cruel that way. Mmm...but does it change anything in my beliefs? don't think it touches me that way.

Cruel? How about the cruelty of making the movie spectators feel so concerned for a person so sensitive (or so disturbed?) to fall in love with a tiger?

I had exactly the same feeling seeing this movie. A feel-good, entertaining fantasy. That little boat would have sunk a hundred times when it was already half-full of water during the storm. And if Pi had been so stupid to help the tiger get back into the boat he would have deserved to be eaten.
The word "fantasy" sums up what this movie is all about!

I would say, it's just a feel-good movie. Afterall, it's just a story/novel, not autobiography.
In real life, that boy would be eaten by the tiger long ago.

Life of Pi is a fantasy adventure novel by Yann Martel published in 2001. The protagonist, Piscine Molitor "Pi" Patel, an Indian boy from Pondicherry.....survives 227 days after a shipwreck, while stranded on a boat in the Pacific Ocean with a Bengal tiger
...and other animals i think. Actually it's the initial story told to some police after he was rescued...w/o some terrible details.
