But there is a lot of lobster in Boston! More than Texas I'm willing to bet! That can only be a plus point for Massachusetts, right?

Massachusetts is a better SOURCE of lobster than Texas, something very important if you are looking for a university that offers a degree in seafood fishing.

But if your interest in lobster is limited to its protein or its taste, this product should be available or you could have it shipped to everywhere in the US.

Hear, hear! :)
There are other factors that are important - the curriculum, cost, funding, etc etc. If the number of international students are important to you, then you may wish to consider that too, among other things.

I studied and now live in the US (Texas). Unless you are severily hindered if you cannot be married to a man, I don't see a necessity to be in Massachusetts, nor can I find major differences in gay lifestyles between the various states. Even in conservative Texas we gays enjoy the same freedoms as elsewhere (except for marriage). Maybe differences in climate are more relevant, although the climate has been very strange lately.

If you are serious about your studies, the location should come far behind many other important factors in selecting the university you want to attend.

Boston has a rep for being a wonderful place in which to live (many of my peers in NY seem to prefer it). I've heard Cambridge's pretty kick-ass too, but I haven't visited it.

Exactly :)

And even within states, each of their constituent cities can be rather different. In Texas, some areas (e.g., Austin, Houston) can be quite liberal, while others are highly conservative.

I think the pros and cons depend partly on which state you are intending to stay in. Different states can be rather different, culture wise.

Hi guys! I've just arrived in New York a week ago to begin studying at Columbia University.

Is there anyone else studying or thinking of studying in the US?
