To celebrate the 30th anniversary of local drama, mediacorp has launched this new variety show where Quan Yifeng goes to all over the world to find former actors and actresses of SBC / TCS / MediaCorp who left the station years ago.
In one episode, they went to find Xie Shaoguang. He now operates a vegetarian restaurant in Johor Bahru.
Name of cafe is Three O Cafe at 15 Jalan Perma's 10/3 Bandar Baru Permas Jaya, Johor Bahru. Tel 07-387-6217.
Shaoguang picked up the phone when Yifeng and long time friend Liu Qiulian called them from outside the restaurant. But he refused to come out of the kitchen. Even when the camera crew went to his restaurant, he also refused to come out.
The show interviewed his former manager, and she said that Shaoguang told her he has now grown very fat. But he did not rule out the possibilty of coming back to MediaCorp to train new actors and actresses. But for now, he is very happy managing his little restaurant in JB.

Xie Shaoguang's past is quite interesting.....i try to remember as much as i had read.
He didn't study very high and worked with his dad, then around mid-20yo, his dad's business folded...and wanting to "taste" a new life, he went off to UK/London (doing low paying jobs) and accidentally got interested in drama/theatre....he studied there for a short while (got some formal theatre training, kinda like Adrian Pang)....then he returned to Spore.
But somehow he couldn't "mix in" with the local drama/theatre circle....so went to TCS/MCS instead (should be around 30+)....no longer young plus average-looking, he could only get small roles....but slowly as he played bad and strange roles successfully, ppl took notice....and in "Holland Village", his comic side also surfaced.
A strange "position" in MCS.....he's recognised by many as one of the best if not the best local actor.....but yet, he's not known as an "Ah Ge"....a lack of "glamour" around him....very little ppl would chase him in the streets unlike other actors. Many actresses who acted opp him admitted they gain from him...and he's a nice helpful person...with "depth"....though one actress felt he's a bit "deep" meaning guarded towards his inner thoughts.
So his last TV appearance (as in drama serial) had just ended....wish him all the best in his new life.

He and Bryan Wang Lu Jiang sure made a good "sister" pair on the TV show "男得风光" (nan de feng guang), screaming and giggling like little girls through the show. It should be renamed "女得风光 nu de feng guang".
P.S. Wow, Boba is still advertising for SUperstar Finals which was already way over. He's such a staunch supporter of the show. Boba boba boba!

He is truly one of those few who has depth in giving thank-you speeches in the year-end award ceremonies..
Unlike the rest who only thank their husbands, wives, fathers and mothers, he would say something which is different and more genuine...
Might as well, he should not have acted in so many "market" characters...
